I highly recommend vmware.  I have 6 virtual machines that I use for
testing stuff, with zero hardware cost.  I keep the vms my 4G machine,
and can run any two that I want simultaneously.  I could run more, but
I like to give them each 1/2G of RAM, and the version of vmware that I
have imposes a 1G limit on simultaneously running vms.

As to the errno problem, in an executable compiled by 20030130 on both
RedHay 7.3 and 8.0, nm output contains the following line:

         U __errno_location@@GLIBC_2.0

Maybe this is a red herring.  I will report back after I get phoebe
installed (only 80M left to download).
