"init"?  (Or is it oxymoronic to initalize a value with a finalizer?)

Or "finalize"?

(I vote against new' -- but that's just my own naming convention, where I
tend to have xyz' as an auxilary function and xyz as calling xyz' with
some default/common arguments.)
