I put a working universal binary build of gmp (ppc/intel 32/64) at this URL:
http://www.dvs.tu-darmstadt.de/staff/terpstra/gmp-3.4.2-ub.tar.gz

Just put the libraries in /usr/local/lib and the header in
/usr/local/include.
