Once you have Basis1997, let's go ahead and do the merge, but with

	-basis {1997|2002|none}

and then we can make it easy for people to try out the new basis with
a mainline experimental release.  I'd be especially interested to hear
what Alain has to say after trying to compile the PolySpace code.
