It was always possible to send commit notifications to mlton@mlton.org
with CVS; it's just that it could be more volume than some may like.

We should fix the Subversion commit hooks to update 
http://www.mlton.org/commitlog.

Perhaps we should set up another mailing list for Subversion commits.  I 
would prefer that commits are not sent to mlton@mlton.org.  Personally, I 
find the commitlog webpage easier to check and see all the recent commits, 
rather than spreading them out over multiple emails.  Alternatively, I've 
been keeping a bookmark to:
  http://mlton.org/cgi-bin/viewsvn.cgi?rev=HEAD&view=rev
which is a quick way to see the most recent commit.
